Mamaroneck Motel, New York

One of our favorite parts of Mid-Century travel is finding those fabulous out of the way motels for an affordable price. One of our biggest challenges on our trip back east was finding something near New York City. We knew we wanted to stay close Mamaroneck-Motel1by – because we were spending the day in Manhattan. Just 21 miles north we found the Mamaroneck Motel.

Although the website doesn’t do it justice, it’s a fabulous retro motel that you wouldn’t notice if you didn’t know it was there.

The motel has 34 rooms that surround a circular flower filled courtyard.  The retro streamlined style is well kept and has a fun atmosphere including a fantastic pizza restaurant just out front (it used to be the motel restaurant).

Although our room didn’t have one, they offer in-room Jacuzzi tubs and a cute  heated outdoor pool.  They offer non-smoking only double and single bed

Fabulous 50's Motel preservation opportunity

A couple of months ago, my husband and I took our kids (and my in-laws) to New Mexico. In travelling we realized how many awesome 50’s motels are out there that are dated, but with a little love (and a website to get travellers there) would be great stops for many money-saving families out there! So, last week we just took a trip and went out of our way to stay at 50’s motels. The
