Retro Roadtrip: Silver Saddle Motel in Manitou Springs

Our second night in Manitou Springs we decided to try another mid-century motel – and we were lucky to stumble on the Silver Saddle Motel – locally owned by Artur Bryja and Brittany Kelly, we found the staff very friendly, the rooms andd facitilies clean and it was pet friendly!

Although our room didn’t have one, they offer in-room Jacuzzi tubs and a cute  heated outdoor pool.  They offer non-smoking only double and single bed guest rooms,  on-site laundry facilities, business center, and a nice variety in their seasonal continental breakfast. They also offer in-room coffee makers, high-speed wireless Internet (which was a bit spotty in connection), A/C and heating units, and convenient front door parking.

New Mexico Mid Century Motels?

We’re in the throws of planning a trip to New Mexico over spring break – mainly to see the Trinity Site (which is only open 2x a year). So, we’ll be staying in Socorro and Santa Fe. I already have a cool Mid Century Motel booked in Alamogordo – anyone have suggestions for Socorro and/or Santa Fe? Kid friendly is great, a pool would be awesome! Las Vegas and Mid-Century Icon The Sahara closes today

The Sahara Hotel closes tomorrow, Monday, May 16th at 2:00 pm.  Having gone from big plans of restoration to succumbing to the bad economy, they just couldn’t keep it afloat any longer and it’s closing it’s doors. The Sahara has a colorful history and it was here the Beatles stayed when they played the Convention Center back in 1964.  From its inception the list of major acts that performed on property is truly staggering and
