Review: Pillow Stalk, Mad for Mod Cozy Mystery

Pillow Stalk FRONT HPWe haven’t done book reviews on Mid-Century style yet, but perhaps that’s because we didn’t know “Pillow Stalk” was out there.   Written by Diane Vallere, this book is custom made for Mid-Century fanatics who enjoy a good cozy mystery!

Born on the same date, Interior Decorator Madison Night has modeled her life after Doris Day, but when a killer targets women dressed like the bubbly actress, Madison’s signature sixties style places her in the middle of a homicide investigation.

doris-day-rock-hudsonThe local hunky and mysterious detective connects the new crimes to a twenty-year old cold case, and Madison’s long-trusted contractor (who’s ironically also hunky and mysterious) emerges as the leading suspect.

The body count piles up like the retro plush velvet pillows the victims are smothered with!

There are tons of references to 60’s Hollywood stars, fabulous retro furniture and accessories and the main character dresses in fabulous retro outfits!

About the Author: “I grew up reading both Trixie Belden mysteries and Vogue magazine and learned how to spot a counterfeiting ring and accessorize a wardrobe. Now I use that knowledge to dream up plots for the Style & Error Mystery Series, the Mad for Mod Mystery Series, and the upcoming Fabric Store Series for Berkley Prime Crime. I still love accessories, only now some of them are accessories to murder. Fun Fact: I didn’t see my first Doris Day movie until I was 38 yrs old. It was Hitchcock’s THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. I enjoyed Ms. Day’s performance so much I immediately rented Pillow Talk and Lover Come Back, and I was hooked!”PillowTalk1959hs550Be sure to check out the book here:

From Flame to Flicker: Inside a Working Neon Shop

You walk into a neon shop expecting nostalgia. You leave thinking about chemistry, electricity, municipal zoning codes, and 1940s craftsmanship. That’s what happened when I toured Morry’s Neon, a family business opened in 1985 by Morry and his son Glen, a business built on a neon legacy that began in 1946 when Morry first started bending glass. Established the same year America decided diners, drive-ins, and optimism were perfectly reasonable things to mass-produce, Morry’s has

About time? Mad men will be back in March – vote in our poll!

It’s not “official” word, but John Hamm (who you would think would know) apparently let it slip during an interview that Mad Men will finally return in March – March 25th to be specific. Here’s another article as well. AMC is still declining to confirm the date at all. So, what do you think? Has it been to long? Would you watch no matter how long it took? Will it have to be an amazing
